Tall Ships Races

The Maritime Museum and Pommern will be in the middle of the festivities during the Tall Ships Races 24-27 July 2024. We are open an extra hour, 10-18.

Art exhibition: Maritime Horizon

This summer you can enjoy beautiful paintings in the small gallery on the lower floor of the museum. Marine painter and boatologist TH Norling will be showing his work from 6 June to 18 August. Norling works classically with oil on canvas, but also with acrylic on old worn-out sail canvas. During the Tall Ships Races 24-27 July, TH Norling will be on site in the exhibition to talk ships and painting with visitors.

What does a sailor without a ship do?

One of the world’s finest and most detailed ship models was built without drawings or tools in a prison camp during World War II by Åland sailor Runar Husell. Our exhibition “What does a sailor without a ship do? An exhibition about the model of Ponape – a miniature miracle” tells the touching story of a sailor, a war and the power of creativity.

The Museum’s engineers operate the steam engine

Our engineers demonstrate the triple expansion steam engine in the Maritime museum and the hot bulb engine onboard Pommern to curious children and adults on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 11am – 1pm. Starts on 25 June.
