Small things with big stories
A scuffing, a mending, a scent, a letter, a puzzling object… People’s possessions wander through history with their stories hidden inside. An object can be a silent conversation between generations. It speaks of the working of hands, of thoughts and fears, encounters with the outside world, relationships and hierarchies. Objects with souls.
Our collections are made up of a plethora of typical maritime objects next to things that don’t seem to fit in at all. They often raise questions like: What is beautiful? What is valuable?
Here we have put together a selection of objects from the museum’s collections. Each one has a bigger story to tell relating to the same human questions: What’s for dinner? Is there something fun going on tonight? Are we there yet? Am I safe here? Is there someone back home who loves me?
Welcome! Assisted by the objects, let us start a conversation with people who was here before us.
