An international profile project

Together with the Pommern Dock and Quay, the exhibition Pommern – 100 Days under Sail is a massive investment in our common heritage – an investment that is funded by both public and private money.

In retrospect, we can proudly say that the Pommern has united all sectors of society in one common project. That says a lot about the status of the Pommern as a symbol for Åland. An added bonus is that already from the start, both dock and exhibition have gained much international interest, which shows that our joint venture is spot on and something that will put Åland on the world map – just like the Pommern did when she sailed on the seven seas under Gustaf Erikson’s flag 80 years ago.

The Town of Mariehamn and the Government of Åland has jointly funded the Pommern Dock and Quay (7 million euro), thus made it possible to preserve the Pommern to a much more professional standard than before. It is a big inestment for a small community and shows that our local politicians are ambitious and forward-thinking.

The Åland Maritime Museum Trust has funded the onboard exhibition (1,75 million euro). The investment had not been possible without the endowments we have received over the years. Thanks to these we had the base funding needed to get started with the project. Nor had this project been possible without the unbelievable support we have received from our Pommern Partners – companies and organisations both from within and without Åland, who together have contributed with more than half of the funding. In addition to this, we have recieived support from various funds and trusts as well as from private individuals through our crowdfunding campaing “Sign on!”
