Items
The Maritime Museum’s collections consist of objects, photographs, archival material and books representing Åland’s maritime heritage. The bulk of the collections has been acquired through donations and bequests from private individuals, shipping companies and other business. Thanks to all these generous contributions the Maritime Museum’s collections are of the highest international standard.
Archives
The Åland Maritime Museum archives contain a plethora of material for those who want to delve deeper into Åland’s maritime past; muster rolls, log books, business correspondence, private letters, sea charts and ship drawings as well as a large photographic collection.
Some of the material has been digitized. In our digital archive you can find muster rolls, seamen’s registers and ship’s records. The documents from our archive have been photographed or scanned and can be read as original text. The digitization of selected parts of the archive is an ongoing project and new material is published continuously. At this stage of the digitization project, material from the Mariehamn and Vårdö Seamen’s House is published.
