Curator for preservation

The Åland Maritime Museum Trust is hiring a curator to oversee the historic sailing vessel Pommern and her preservation. The main tasks involve planning and development as well as care and maintenance. The Curator will supervise technicians and volunteers on board and is expected to take part in some of the practical work on board. Other tasks include managing external cooperative projects relevant to the ship and to support the public offering and visitor experience.

We are looking for a person with a degree in heritage specialising in the building techniques, building preservation or conservation, alternatively comparative education and experience we deem as relevant. Extra credits are given for practical experience of preserving historic ships, buildings or sites, and experience from public museum work, i.e. exhibitions, education and similar.

Personal qualities
We are looking for a creative person who is professional and clear in her/his profession, a person who is stimulated by working with a variety of tasks and who can find the right level to reach the expected result. You can work independently as well as in a team to make decisions and solve problems. You have a strategic mindset and can plan, organise and prioritise the work process in an efficient way.

Further, you are structured and have an ability to lead work and processes forward. You can cooperate and communicate easily with a variety of people, both internally and externally.
